applications for one tenure-track appointment at the rank of <b>Assistant
Professor </b>in the general area of sedimentology and stratigraphyin the
Department of Geology. The position will commence on August 1, 2024, or no
later than January 1, 2025.   <span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0cm 0cm 10pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The Department is home to five tenured and
tenure-track faculty members in the Faculty of Science and Environmental
Studies, and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Geology,
Environmental Earth Science, and Water Resource Science. It has a well-established
national and international research reputation with strengths in economic
geology, geochemistry, petrology, structural geology, tectonics, early Earth
ocean-atmosphere-terrestrial systems, and biogeochemistry. We are a small
department with a dynamic focus on experiential learning and have strong
connections with local industry and government.  Lakehead University has
several centralized labs to support research, including the Lakehead University
Environmental Laboratory, and the Lakehead University Instrumentation
Lab.  Instrumentation available for the successful candidate’s use
includes ICP-OES and MS, a high-resolution FESEM-EDX system, TEM, XRD, a fluid
inclusion stage with IR, several spectroscopy systems, state of the art microscopes
with digital imagers, and assorted other instrumentation and equipment to
support field activities.  Also available to the successful candidate is
access to the department’s lapidary facility, which is staffed by two full-time
technicians.<span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0cm 0cm 10pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">We especially welcome applicants with research
interests in the broad area of sedimentary geology and/or stratigraphy in
modern and/or ancient sedimentary environments who use a multi-disciplinary
approach, including geochemical and field-based analyses.  Anticipated
areas of specialization could include carbonate or clastic sedimentology
applied to depositional systems analysis, basin analysis, sequence
stratigraphy, and/or early Earth ocean-atmosphere evolution. An ability to
collaborate with existing faculty members tectonics, geochemistry and/or
sedimentology of critical metal systems are assets.<span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0cm 0cm 10pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in geology, and
a proven record of excellence in research and teaching.  The successful
applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
sedimentology and establish an internationally recognized, externally funded
research program. Additional to sedimentology, teaching may include courses in
introductory geology, Earth and life evolution, and field school. Other duties
include student mentorship and supervision, and professional service for the
department, the University, and the community.<span></span></span></p>
