<p class="MsoNormal">A postdoctoral position is available with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Department of Meteorology in Monterey, CA. The position supports a project funded by the US Office of Naval Research on (1) applying machine learning techniques
to geostationary satellite imagery for automated detection and tracking of polluted boundary layer clouds and (2) validation of geostationary microphysical retrievals using airborne measurements taken during the Southern California Interactions of Low cloud
and Land Aerosol (SCILLA) field campaign. The selected candidate will have ample opportunity to determine the specific research direction within the overarching topics of satellite remote sensing, machine learning, and boundary layer cloud processes. Funding
is guaranteed for one year with possible extension pending satisfactory progress.<br>
<br>
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or a closely related field. A background in remote sensing is desirable but not required; more importantly, we seek an ambitious candidate with the desire to learn new techniques and perform integrative
research that synthesizes machine learning with aircraft and remote sensing observations. Candidates with United States citizenship preferred.<br>
<br>
Applicants should submit a cover letter and complete CV, including contact information for three references. Inquiries and application materials should be addressed to Dr. Mikael Witte (<a href="mailto:mikael.witte@nps.edu">mikael.witte@nps.edu</a>). The position
is available immediately and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.<o:p></o:p></p>
