Postdoctoral position in forest canopy micrometeorology at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman Washington, USA

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a multi-institutional research team (WSU, NCAR, LLNL, University of Wyoming) in a DOE funded project. The project aims to better understand how turbulent flux exchanges
within and above the horizontally heterogeneous forest canopy over the southeastern U.S. contribute to the development of shallow convection during the morning transition period from stable to convective conditions. We will use a combined approach of data
analysis from multiple levels of eddy covariance measurements from three flux towers and boundary-layer observations as well as canopy-resolving large eddy simulations (i.e., WRF-LES and FastEddy®).
Measurements will be taken at a new DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) field site in the Bankhead National Forest.

Primary job duties for the postdoc will include: 1) studying spatial variability in turbulence structures and fluxes from multi-level eddy covariance systems above and within heterogeneous forest canopy on three towers and virtual towers
from LES, 2) closely coordinating the data sharing and result discussion with the research team, and 3) leading publication of results in peer-reviewed journals. Additional opportunities include professional development such as teaching and mentoring students
as well as career development such as grantsmanship. The postdoc will have an opportunity to visit NCAR in Boulder, CO to work with collaborators in the Research Applications Laboratory.
