<p class="MsoNormal">The Water Institute is seeking a Coastal Carbon Scientist and a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) scientist to conduct field, laboratory, and/or modeling work in coastal and deltaic environments with a focus of assessing carbon fluxes in coastal habitats
of wetlands, estuaries, and coastal ocean. These are full-time positions with benefits and will report to and work closely with Dr. Tim Carruthers, Director of Coastal Ecology. The positions will work within a dynamic team of natural and social science researchers
at The Water Institute. The primary work will be to provide technical support in the development and application of quantifying carbon fluxes in Coastal Louisiana to support development of policy and procedures for carbon accreditation. The positions will
help conduct field work, prepare samples for analysis, and analyze data, to help improve quantification of the carbon budget for Louisiana coastal wetlands at scales of hectares up to hundreds of hectares. Publishing this work in the peer reviewed literature
will be essential to provide the scientific verification of the developed carbon accreditation policy or processes. The position will also work closely with partners from academia, industry, and local, state, and regional governments to generate exemplary,
world-class applied research. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">We are seeking scientists that are extremely motivated problem solvers who want to learn new skills, attract external funding, and are capable of effective cross-disciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities will reflect career stage and
previous experience. Workload will vary from week to week, and the successful candidate will be flexible, willing to occasionally work evenings, and travel for meetings and conferences. The Institute expects to offer a competitive salary and benefits commensurate
with a candidate’s skills and experience. These are full-time exempt positions and are based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Required qualifications for positions include:<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">PhD with one post doc or 2+ years of work experience in wetland ecology including carbon cycling and/or quantification of GHG exchange in coastal systems.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Excellent written skills, ability to describe highly technical information clearly (including writing technical reports, non-technical summaries, and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals).
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Strong oral communication skills for discussing highly technical concepts to diverse audiences (including oral presentations at project meetings and scientific conferences; discussions at stakeholder meetings).
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Ability to work harmoniously in collaborative research team.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Pro-active attitude to problem solving, ability to work independently, and self-motivated.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Knowledge and experience with coding, data analysis and manipulation using statistical techniques with Matlab and/or Python and/or R and/or Julia.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Experience with integrated numerical models (such as Delft 3D, FVCOM, ROMS or SCHISM), GIS, AI/ML, and high-performance computing are considered a plus.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Strong project management and time management skills.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Familiarity seeking funding from public, private, and/or federal sources.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Field work experience in estuaries.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Expertise in the coastal carbon cycling, including assessing carbon fluxes and stocks coastal habitats.
