<p class="MsoNormal">The Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Department in the College of Science and Technology at Temple University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position under the advisement of Dr. Rebecca Beadling in the Ocean
Climate Connections lab<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">(https://sites.temple.edu/oceanclimateconnections/). The postdoctoral research scientist will lead research in the general theme of analysis of coupled climate model simulations and observational products to constrain our understanding
of present day and future changes in physical and biogeochemical dynamics in the Southern Ocean (SO). Areas of interest include coupled air-sea-ice interactions along the Antarctic margin, continental shelf and open-ocean exchange and their projected evolution
in a warming climate, processes governing the projected evolution of largescale ocean circulation patterns, and building process-oriented diagnostics to further our<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">understanding of biases in the SO in CMIP6-class models. Exact scope of project to be determined by the candidate’s interest and experience.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The postdoctoral research scientist will join an interdisciplinary research group under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Beadling at Temple University with the opportunity to collaborate with a team of scientists at outside institutions. Available
resources include access to state-of-the-science coupled climate and Earth system model simulation results and observational datasets and products, utilization of a state-of-the-art scientific computing cluster, and Temple’s Owl’s Nest High-Performance Computing
system.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Candidates must have received their Ph.D. in a relevant field (oceanography, physics, applied math, geoscience, computer science, etc.) at the time of hire. Candidates should have strong experience in the Python programming language and
Unix. Familiarity with commonly used Python packages to analyze observations and model output including Xarray and Xgcm is desirable. Candidates should have experience working with global climate model output and oceanic observational datasets, particularly
with netcdf and Zarr data formats. Candidates should have a strong track record of publishing research in their field.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Postdoctoral appointments are initially for one year with the renewal for subsequent years based on satisfactory performance and continued funding. A competitive salary is offered commensurate with experience and qualifications. Arrangements
