Alaska EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research)
and the Alaska fire management community? The Geophysical Institute (GI)
is seeking applications for a one-year Post Doctoral Fellow in fire
spread modeling. This position is located in Fairbanks, AK which has
access to many hiking and ski trails as well as opportunities to view

<p class="gmail-dutiesTitle"></p><u>Duties:</u><br><br>Run models for
active fire characterization. Conduct statistical analysis of model
output. Process remote sensing data sets in a command line setting. Work
with the project team and Alaska fire management community to address
questions of societal relevance. Successfully submit and publish
scientific manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.</div>
<div id="gmail-job-details"><br>This postdoctoral fellowship provides an
opportunity to co-produce actionable science that addresses the growing
needs of the Alaska wildland fire management community. You will have
the opportunity to practice data science and use models for active fire
characterization. Observational data from the Alaska EPSCoR Boreal Fire
component will also be utilized to interpret and validate models of
active fire behavior. Case studies will be prioritized for the 2021
Munson Creek and Dry Creek Fires, for which significant observational
data has been collected.
