The Department of Marine Sciences seeks to add a full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach and conduct engaged research on the physical and marine geological processes that determine the evolution of coastal
geomorphology, and the mechanisms responsible for determining the patterns of sediment transport and fate of contaminated sediments.<br>

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the Department’s initiative in Coastal Ecosystems and Health, the engaged scholarship supported by the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation (CIRCA), and the Department
of Earth Sciences’ initiative on The Earth and its Future. Research themes that advance the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ focus on inequalities, social justice, truth, and belief are encouraged. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core institutional

enrollment of 45 graduate students and 70 undergraduate majors. Opportunities for collaboration exist with the faculty of the Department whose interests span much of ocean sciences. Additional opportunities for collaboration exist with the newly designated
Connecticut National Estuarine Research (CT NERR), and the Connecticut Initiative on Environmental Research of Offshore Wind (CIEROW).<br>

The Department and its faculty have state-of-the-art research facilities including the R/V Connecticut, smaller vessels, other field instrumentation systems, access to high-performance computational resources, analytical instrumentation facilities, and research
laboratories that support research excellence. The Department is located at the Avery Point campus, situated on the coast in southeastern Connecticut. Consequently, the programs offer the intimacy and support of a small campus, coupled with the resources of
a large public research university and internationally renowned scientists.<br>

The successful candidate is expected to grow an independent, nationally-recognized, extramurally-funded research program that engages graduate and undergraduate students, and a scholarly publication record that contributes to the Department’s research mission
in Marine Sciences.
