Resources Laboratory invites applications for <b>a postdoctoral associate</b>. Funding is available for two years with the possibility of extension and/or promotion depending on a performance review.</span></div>

<div class="ContentPasted0"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The successful candidate will have expertise in numerical modeling related to weather and atmospheric chemistry at regional and/or global scales. The successful candidate will
also perform research related to improving the modeling of <b>dust characterization and emissions incorporated into NOAA weather and air quality forecast models</b>, including within the Unified Forecast System. The ideal candidate will have experience in
wind-blown dust research and also be familiar with atmospheric chemistry and air quality modeling using models such as CMAQ, WRF-Chem, GEOS-Chem, or other similar 3-D models. Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to publish the results of their research
in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and make clear, professional presentations at major conferences, seminars, and other internal NOAA meetings.</span></div>

<div class="ContentPasted0">

<li style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Conduct simulations using the NOAA Unified Forecast System in coordination with NOAA Air Resources Laboratory.</span></li><li class="ContentPasted0" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Develop and improve surface exchange processes related to atmospheric composition within the UFS earth system models.</span></li><li class="ContentPasted0" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Evaluate forecast simulations against satellite and in situ measurements.</span></li></ul>

<li style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ph.D. or equivalent degree earned in a relevant science or engineering field.</span></li><li class="ContentPasted0" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Expertise with gridded meteorological and atmospheric models such as WRF, CMAQ, or GEOS-Chem and their applications to air quality
and/or climate change.</span></li><li class="ContentPasted0" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Experience with Linux HPC systems and Fortran.</span></li><li class="ContentPasted0" style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Excellent written and oral communication skills.</span></li></ol>
