Details:

JPL's Water and Ecosystems Group (329F) seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work with Drs. Anthony Bloom, Junjie Liu, and Nicholas Parazoo on advance model-based estimates of net biosphere CO2, CH4, and or H2O exchanges over the North America (NA) domain
and their underlying process controls by jointly using satellite and surface observations of land surface C and H2O states and fluxes (including solar-induced fluorescence, leaf area, biomass, and GRACE-based water storage anomalies, FLUXNET CO2 and CH4 datasets)
to constrain and quantify processes controlling the NA land-atmosphere net biosphere CO2, CH4 and or H2O exchanges using state-of-the-art Bayesian model-data fusion techniques, and further, constrain net land-atmosphere CO2 and CH4 exchange using atmospheric
inversion estimates informed by Orbiting Carbon Observatory CO2 measurements and/or land-atmosphere CH4 emission estimates constrained by observations from the GOSAT and TROPOMI instruments.

The postdoctoral researcher will use these to characterize the broader impact of climate, atmospheric CO2, and land management on the NA C cycle and will further use the CARDAMOM C and H2O estimates to characterize the information content of the current
and future synergistic (multi-satellite) Earth-observing system. The appointee will also investigate how model-data synthesis can place constraints on the role of land-use in the C cycle, such as agricultural and forestry practices and integrate these insights
into investigations of the NA C budget.
