 and Community Resilience</span></strong>. The emphasis for the current search is on <strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">High-Impact and Severe Weather</span></strong>, which compliments a recent emphasis within DGES on <strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Urban
 Sustainability</span></strong>. These positions fit within the college's strategic vision of promoting convergent weather and climate research and are strongly aligned with OU’s strategic plan by helping to build and support research, education, and outreach
 in building Resilient Environment, Energy, and Sustainability systems. </p>

<p><strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Position One: Water Systems Science</span></strong>. We seek an innovative scholar who studies water systems from a transdisciplinary perspective. Topics of interest include lacustrine and riverine geomorphology,
 stream restoration, watershed hydrology and management, and the effects of global change on water systems. The successful candidate will foster understanding of convergent issues concerned with the impacts of environmental change on water systems, water availability,

<p><strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Position Two: Community Resilience</span></strong>. We seek an innovative scholar to contribute to convergent research on how communities adapt to and recover from environmental change. The ideal candidate
 will employ social science and policy research to develop and evaluate community resilience strategies in relation to high-impact weather and climate events, with an emphasis on the social-ecological and technological systems that influence levels of resilience.

<p><strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Position Three: Urban Climate</span></strong>. We seek an innovative scholar with the potential to make significant contributions in the understanding of the link between high-impact weather and climate
 extremes and community resilience in urban environments. The scholar’s research may include public health, sustainability, climate-change impacts or adaptation, heat waves, air quality, or flooding. This position will be a joint appointment between DGES and

Qualifications </h3>
<p><strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability:
</span></strong>The ideal candidates will have the potential to contribute to sustainability and resilience collaborations in our intellectually diverse department. Applicants must possess a PhD in Geography or a related discipline at time of appointment. The
 successful applicants will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent research program, to teach in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability (the standard load is 2-2), and to contribute to mentorship and advisement for students in
 our growing graduate program. The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability is currently composed of 20 tenure-line faculty with diverse research agendas.</p>
