Colleague Letter</a><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>that serves as an announcement of opportunity to become a program director through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA). IPA rotators come to NSF on temporary (1-4 year) assignments and serve
in a full-time program management role alongside NSF permanent staff. The responsibilities of the NSF Program Director include long-range planning and budget development for the program, the administration of the merit review process and proposal recommendations,
the preparation of press releases, feature articles and material describing advances in the research supported, and coordination and partnership with other programs in NSF, other Federal agencies and organizations.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></span><span style="font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">The advantage to NSF of the rotator arrangement is that it brings in new ideas and viewpoints from the scientific community, and the advantage to the rotator and home institution is that the rotator gains increased
visibility and a full appreciation of the scientific landscape across the US. Rotators are also allowed Independent Research/Development (IRD) plans that provide time to maintain involvement with professional research and mentoring. IPAs remain employees of
their home institution and NSF provides an award to the institution to cover the cost of the individual. The candidate would ideally start by Fall 2021.
