You will implement and improve a series of parameterizations within a crop model embedded into a land model to simulate bioenergy crops (for example, oil palm plantation, miscanthus) and enhanced weathering applications with crops. Later, you will run the crop model coupled within an Earth System Model to study the indirect feedbacks on atmospheric composition and climate from the large-scale deployment of such as strategies. You will join the research group of Dr Maria Val Martin, and work in close collaboration with colleagues at the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation (LC3M), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR, Colorado, US), the MetOffice and BEIS.</font></p><p class="" style="margin: 0px 0px 1em; font-size: 16px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; text-decoration-thickness: initial;"><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class="">You should have a Ph.D. in agricultural, atmospheric, climate sciences or related field. You should have experience in running land or crop models (eg, CLM5, CTSM, JULES) or Earth System Models (eg, CESM, UK-ESM) on high-performance computing systems, and analyze large earth model datasets and observations. You should also have proficiency with one or more programming languages (eg, Python, R, Matlab, Fortran). You should have excellent written and oral communication skills and an established publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Training will be provided where necessary and the project represents an ideal opportunity to expand your technical expertise in these areas. You will be responsible for your own research programme but will need to work with other team members to ensure the project objectives and milestones are met in a timely manner.</font></p><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""><span class="" style="font-size: 12pt; background: var(--white);"></span></font><p class=""><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""><span class="" style="font-size: 12pt; background: var(--white);">Please direct inquiries about the role to Dr Maria Val Martin <a href="https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fm.valmartin%40sheffield.ac.uk%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cmet-jobs%40lists.reading.ac.uk%7Ca8c8c3f51f764362889908d8bca0a652%7C4ffa3bc4ecfc48c09080f5e43ff90e5f%7C0%7C0%7C637466745521023576%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=cxbACCtBeGUZhdnGga6RlroqLCKlXIqttMD7al1Cf%2Fo%3D&reserved=0" class="">m.valmartin@sheffield.ac.uk</a></span></font></p><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""></font><div class="" style="font-size: 12pt;"><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class="">Deadline for applications is 10 June 2021.<br class=""></font></div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""></font><div class="" style="font-size: 12pt;"><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""><br class=""></font></div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class=""></font><div class="" style="font-size: 12pt;"><font face="Calibri,sans-serif" class="">Please find more details, including how to apply at <a href="https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/CGA843/research-associate-in-climate-change-mitigation" class="">https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/CGA843/research-associate-in-climate-change-mitigation</a></font></div></body></html>
