Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Atmospheric Science. This hire will also serve as Director of the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (<span class="caps">CIRA</span>).
The faculty appointment will be made at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. We solicit candidates in CIRA’s core focus area of merging satellite observations and models. This is interpreted as expertise in Satellite Remote Sensing, Regional and Global
Model Development, or Data Assimilation, with emphasis on individuals working at the interfaces of these areas.<br>
In their role as a faculty member in the Atmospheric Science Department, the successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain a strong, internationally recognized research program supported through external funding, complement and expand upon the
department’s current research activities, and provide service to the University and broader community. They will also contribute to teaching and intellectual leadership in our atmospheric science M.S. and Ph.D. programs by teaching in the Department’s graduate
curriculum and advising graduate students. Expectation levels in these areas will be established to accommodate additional responsibilities as <span class="caps">CIRA</span> Director. Further information about the Department can be found at http://www.atmos.colostate.edu.<br>
The duties and responsibilities of the Director of <span class="caps">CIRA</span> are those described in the <span class="caps">CSU</span>-<span class="caps">NOAA</span> Memorandum of Understanding regarding <span class="caps">CIRA</span> and in the University
Code related to Directors of a major research unit. They include scientific leadership to accomplish the Mission of <span class="caps">CIRA</span>, a $25-30M/year unit comprised of nearly 130 scientists, graduate students and staff located in Fort Collins
and at NOAA’s Earth Science Research Laboratory in Boulder, as well as <span class="caps">NOAA</span> facilities in Kansas City and Washington, DC. The Director guides and fosters multidisciplinary research in CIRA’s primary and cross-cutting theme areas of:
Satellite Algorithm Development, Training and Education; Regional to Global Scale Modeling Systems; Data Assimilation; Climate-Weather Processes and Data Distribution, along with cross-cutting activities in Societal and Economic Impacts, Data Analytics and
the Development of Visualization Tools. The Director leads and supports short- and long-term research collaborations with <span class="caps">NOAA</span>, the National Park Service, Department of Defense, <span class="caps">NASA</span> and other agencies. Normal
personnel management, cost budgeting and execution, technical evaluation and research infrastructure responsibilities commensurate with CIRA’s level-of-effort are the responsibilities of the Director and their staff. The appointment as <span class="caps">CIRA</span> Director

The duties and responsibilities of the Director of <span class="caps">CIRA</span> are those described in the <span class="caps">CSU</span>-<span class="caps">NOAA</span> Memorandum of Understanding regarding <span class="caps">CIRA</span> and in the University
Code related to Directors of a major research unit. They include scientific leadership to accomplish the Mission of <span class="caps">CIRA</span>, a $25-30M/year unit comprised of nearly 130 scientists, graduate students and staff located in Fort Collins
and at NOAA’s Earth Science Research Laboratory in Boulder, as well as <span class="caps">NOAA</span> facilities in Kansas City and Washington, DC. The Director guides and fosters multidisciplinary research in CIRA’s primary and cross-cutting theme areas of:
Satellite Algorithm Development, Training and Education; Regional to Global Scale Modeling Systems; Data Assimilation; Climate-Weather Processes and Data Distribution, along with cross-cutting activities in Societal and Economic Impacts, Data Analytics and
the Development of Visualization Tools. The Director leads and supports short- and long-term research collaborations with <span class="caps">NOAA</span>, the National Park Service, Department of Defense, <span class="caps">NASA</span> and other agencies. Normal
personnel management, cost budgeting and execution, technical evaluation and research infrastructure responsibilities commensurate with CIRA’s level-of-effort are the responsibilities of the Director and their staff. The appointment as <span class="caps">CIRA</span> Director
will be for an initial term of 5 years, with reappointments based on the outcome of performance reviews.<o:p></o:p></p>
