<p> Dear Colleagues, <br>
</p>
<p>We are inviting applications for <b>two open positions</b> at
the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (<b>KIT</b>), Institute of
Meteorology and Climate Research - Department Troposphere
Research (<b>IMK-TRO</b>). As a part of my new Helmholtz Young
Investigator Group "Mineral dust", we are offering: <br>
</p>
<p>A <b>3-year position for a doctoral student </b>with
background in meteorology, physics or a related field, ideally
with programming skills, previous experience in numerical
modeling and/or the field of dust/aerosol research; <br>
</p>
<p><i>The doctoral student will investigate the link between
turbulent atmospheric forcing and soil mineral dust emission.
She/he is expected to participate in multi-institutional field
measurements in Morocco, and to set up and run the model
ICON-ART for the field conditions. Using observational data,
model experiments, and theoretical knowledge, she/he will
study the behavior of suspended particles depending on their
size shortly after emission. The successful candidate will
work closely with national and international collaborators.</i>
<br>
</p>
<p>Start date: 01 November 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter</p>
<p>Supervision: Dr. Martina Klose; Co-supervision: Prof. Dr. Peter
Knippertz</p>
<p><u>Apply for this position</u> following the directions in this

</p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>A <b>4-year position for a postdoctoral researcher</b> with
background in meteorology, physics or a related field,
programming skills, and ideally with previous experience in the
field of dust/aerosol research, numerical modeling, and/or
remote sensing. <br>
</p>
<p><i>The postdoctoral researcher will work on modeling the
mineral dust cycle and its impacts with focus on the lower
boundary conditions for dust modeling. She/he will develop and
test methods to better exploit high-resolution remote sensing
data in models and study the impact of land-surface
heterogeneity on the simulated dust cycle using the ICON-ART
modeling system. She/he will contribute to quantifying the
impact of mineral dust on the Earth-atmosphere system and to
estimating its importance compared to other aerosol types. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain
experience in the co-supervision of students and to contribute
to teaching.</i> <br>
