<h3>Responsibilities<o:p></o:p></h3>
<p>JPL's Aerosols and Clouds Group is currently seeking a postdoctoral candidate who will utilize satellite cloud and precipitation observations from CloudSat/CALIPSO, the A-Train, and advanced geostationary sensors to constrain the physics governing boundary
layer clouds. The focus of the study will be on marine boundary layer clouds, whose lifecycle play an important role in determining the Earth’s climate sensitivity. Of primary concern is the transition from stratocumulus to cumulus clouds along the trajectory
of the trade winds and how these transitions may change with a warming climate. Therefore, a central focus of the study will be the evaluation of cloud lifecycle along Lagrangian parcel trajectories. A single column model will be used as a tool to evaluate
the key physical processes in governing the cloud lifecycle. The candidate will quantify the relative contributions of these different physical processes in determining cloud regime transitions.
<a href="https://science.jpl.nasa.gov/people/Lebsock/" target="_blank">Dr. Matthew Lebsock</a> will serve as the JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will interact regularly with a large multi-disciplinary team to carry out research
tasks leading to peer-reviewed publications and regular presentations at conferences.<o:p></o:p></p>
<h3>Qualifications<o:p></o:p></h3>
<p>Applicants should have a recent PhD in atmospheric science, or a related field. A demonstrated background in cloud and precipitation satellite observations is preferred, with a particular focus on cloud radar and/or geostationary imagery. Familiarity with
good programing practices and the ability to work with large datasets is necessary. Knowledge of the physics of marine boundary layer clouds is highly desired. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application
are eligible. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum duration of three years. Candidates should submit the following to this site: CV, representative publications, contact information
