and demonstrates an understanding of atmospheric physics and dynamics and snow physics and avalanche dynamics. The five main functions of this position are: 1) Provides weather and avalanche forecasts for highway maintenance operations; 2) Provides public
weather and avalanche forecasts for backcountry recreation; 3) Trains state employees, contractors, and general public in snow, weather and avalanche safety; 4) Collects field data to support the highway and backcountry weather and avalanche forecasting programs;
and 5) Installs and maintains remote weather instrumentation and works with geographic information systems (GIS).

Avalanche forecaster – collects and analyzes weather and snow data, describe specific events or patterns in snow properties and avalanche activity in an avalanche forecast. Also interprets weather forecast products for local effects on snow and avalanche conditions.
Develops new methods and techniques for utilizing the CAIC's dataset.

Educator – Trains CDOT personnel and contractors on avalanche potential within their highway corridor. Develops new methods and tools to teach avalanche safety to CDOT personnel. Teaches snow, weather and avalanche science to CDOT personnel and backcountry
users.
Field Data Collection – Collects data on the current physical, mechanical and thermal state of the snowpack. Analyzes and interprets these data to determine the structural and mechanical stability of the snowpack. Uses the assessment of snowpack properties
and weather forecasts to determine current and future avalanche potential. Collects and uses avalanche occurrence data to determine the current and future character of avalanche activity. Collects weather data. All of these data must be recorded in a central
computer database and used for the avalanche forecasting portion of the position.

Automated Weather Stations and GIS systems – Installs and maintains automated weather stations. This includes understanding CSI measurement acquisition computer language and writing and editing programs using the Logger Net software package. Compiles and installs
these programs so that they run the data logger computers and remote weather instruments. Wires data logger instrument panels and establishes phone, RF, and Ethernet communications between weather and base station units. Also diagnoses and maintains communication

Part or all of the assessment for this position may include a review of your application materials. Application materials will be reviewed by a Human Resource Specialist and/or Subject Matter Expert to determine if you meet the minimum requirements for the
position. If you are notified that you do not meet the minimum qualifications, you will be given two business days from the date of the notification to submit an addendum in order to attempt to resolve the matter. It is recommended that you submit the addendum
or contact the Human Resources Specialist listed below immediately to resolve issues related to your possession of minimum qualifications.
Upon meeting the minimum qualifications, the next phase of the assessment process may consist of a comparative analysis of all application materials. Utilizing your application, résumé and cover letter, the review would be a comparative analysis against the
listed required competencies, job duties and/or preferred qualifications in this announcement to determine technical competence, depth and breadth of experience and job fit. It is imperative that you provide adequate detail on your application, résumé and
