<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">I am seeking a graduate student (PhD) with a background in mathematics to join my lab at the University of Nevada, Reno, starting
in the spring semester of 2021. We are a geological engineering lab that studies a range of ice-related topics. Understanding the processes underlying snow, firn, and ice evolution allows for better interpretation of paleoclimate records from ice. Ultimately,
these ice core records are extremely important for understanding how Earth’s climate system has changed in the past and also how it may change in the future due to anthropogenic climate change.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">Specifically, I am looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated student with demonstrated coding skills to work on a firn
microstructure modeling project. The application deadline is September 1st, 2020. Thus, students must contact me by August 5th, 2020, so that we have time to communicate and establish compatibility prior to the application deadline.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.1200008392334px; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">UNR is Nevada’s flagship, land-grant institution, and has world-class facilities. It is a tier 1 (R1) university, meaning an
institution with “very high research activity” as classified by the Carnegie Institution. Reno itself is a wonderful place to live. It is sandwiched between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west and the Great Basin Desert to the east, providing ample opportunity
for hiking, camping, biking, skiing, and mountain climbing. Reno is only a 30-minute drive from Lake Tahoe, and only a few hours’ drive from both San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.1200008392334px; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">If you are interested in this opportunity, please send me an email at <span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.1200008392334px; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">kkeegan@unr.edu<span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.1200008392334px; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;" class="">.
Please write a brief description of why you are interested in joining the lab and attach a CV with contact information for at least two references. If you are a potential fit for the lab, I will set up a Zoom interview.
