<p style="margin:0px 0px 1.2em!important">The George Mason University, Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) in collaboration with the Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS) Program and NOAA’s Air Resources Laboratory invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions to work with the Chemical Modeling & Emissions group at ARL in the NOAA Center for Weather & Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD. </p>

<p style="margin:0px 0px 1.2em!important">The two incumbents will perform research related to weather and air quality forecasting and possess a broad range of knowledge and skills including atmospheric chemistry modeling, emission science, high performance computing, air quality data analysis and model evaluation, machine learning technologies, satellite data analysis and superior communication abilities. </p>

<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">One postdoctoral associate will work closely with ARL scientists to develop an emissions processing system for NOAA aerosol and atmospheric composition (AAC) models in the Unified Forecast System (UFS) framework and perform simulations with UFS AAC models and evaluate results toward the improvement of emissions inputs; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">A second postdoctoral associate will focus on developing machine learning emulators for components of UFS AAC models or postprocessors; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Both candidates will be expected to publish their results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and make clear, professional presentations at major conferences, seminars and other internal NOAA meetings. </li>

<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">PhD in atmospheric sciences or related field; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Excellent written and oral communication skills; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Experience in atmospheric chemistry modeling and/or emissions science; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Experience with machine learning technologies and development of process emulators; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Experience working in high performance computing environments. Preferred Qualifications: </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Experience with emissions processing software, but especially the Harvard-NASA Emissions Component (HEMCO); </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Familiarity with the Community Emissions Data System (CEDS), the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR), or other global emissions datasets; </li>
<li style="margin:0.5em 0px">Proficiency in FORTRAN and Python. </li>
