The candidate will join the Rutgers University Earth System Science & Policy Lab (earthscipol.net), under the direction of Professor Robert Kopp, and its collaborators in the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub (MACH), the NASA Sea-Level Change Team, and the Climate Impact Lab. Research in the Earth System Science & Policy Lab addresses four interrelated questions: First, how has sea level changed in the past? Second, how may sea level change in the future in response to climate forcing? Third, how do climate and sea-level change impact the economy and human well-being? Finally, how can climate and sea-level science more effectively support climate risk management under deep uncertainty? The Lab?s sea-level projections are highly used; the Framework for Assessment of Changes To Sea-level (FACTS; https://www.fact-sealevel.org/), an open-source sea-level projection framework initially developed by the lab, supported the integration of projections for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change?s Sixth Assessment Report. Working in coordination with the FACTS development team at the Climate Impact Lab and with collaborators in the NASA Sea-Level Change Team, the postdoctoral associate may have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the scientific community?s next generation of sea-level rise projections, following a workplan to be developed at the June 2026 AGU Chapman Conference on Updating Usable Projections of Sea-Level Rise (https://www.agu.org/chapman-sea-level). In this context, the integration into global, relative, and extreme sea-level projections of knowledge related to potential high-impact events of poorly-known likelihood, such as ice-sheet or AMOC collapse, is of particular interest, as is the integration of observational constraints. Interest in or experience with the development of emulators of complex models is also valuable. The postdoctoral associate may also have the opportunity to work with colleagues in MACH and the Climate Impact Lab on topics such as the valuation of coastal climate risk information, the use of market mechanisms such as insurance to manage coastal climate risk, and the simulation of adaptation decision-making under deep uncertainty. The candidate requires: * PhD in oceanography, atmospheric science, geophysics, economics, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline at time of appointment; * Familiarity with literature relevant to sea-level projections and/or coastal climate risk; * Strong coding skills, including experience in Python; * Excellent organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with high-performance computing is a plus. The position will be based at Rutgers-New Brunswick. The position is a grant-funded annual position. Renewal for up to three years is possible subject to performance and availability of funding. Rutgers University provides equal employment opportunity to all its employees and applicants for employment regardless of their race, creed, color, national origin, age, ancestry, nationality, marital or domestic partnership or civil union status, sex, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, disability status, liability for military service, protected veteran status, affectional or sexual orientation, atypical cellular or blood trait, genetic information (including the refusal to submit to genetic testing), or any other category protected by law. As an institution, we encourage all qualified applicants to apply. For additional information please see the Non-Discrimination Statement at the following web address: http://uhr.rutgers.edu/non-discrimination-statement Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, contact information for three references, a C.V., a writing sample, and a link to a GitHub repo or other coding sample at https://jobs.rutgers.edu/postings/268280. We are interested in hiring interdisciplinary scientists whose research addresses fundamental and applied questions in the coastal, near-shore marine, and oceanographic sciences. We invite qualified candidates within these broad disciplines whose research uses observational, modelling, theoretical, and/or experimental approaches to apply for three (3) open positions based at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, Louisiana. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled, but we will begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2026. Institution LUMCON is a program of the Louisiana Board of Regents serving as a statewide academic and research Consortium representing over 40 universities and colleges across Louisiana. LUMCON?s mission is to promote, facilitate and conduct research and education collaborations among Louisiana?s universities in marine and coastal sciences relevant to the sustainability of coastal and marine environments of the U.S. Gulf Coast. LUMCON provides unparalleled opportunities in coastal, marine, and oceanographic science and education to the research community and public alike. Anchored by a first-rate marine laboratory, the DeFelice Marine Center, LUMCON is embedded in Louisiana?s dynamic wetland environment and conveniently located on a gateway to the open waters of the Gulf. LUMCON operates a world-class fleet of research vessels unmatched on the US Gulf Coast. In 2023, LUMCON expanded its programs through the opening of a maritime research and outreach facility (Blue Works) on the Maritime Campus in Houma. In 2025, a large boat slip and bulkhead project was completed on the Maritime Campus. We recently held the ground breaking for a new Marine Operations Center that will open in 2027 and a keel-laying for the state?s new flagship, 125-foot RV Pelican II, which will also be delivered in 2027. Assistant Professor Positions in Coastal and Marine Science / Oceanography We are seeking interdisciplinary scientists whose research addresses fundamental and applied questions in the coastal, near-shore marine, or oceanographic sciences who are interested in developing a world-class research program to apply for these positions. Research subject specialties may include, but are not limited to all disciplines of oceanography, community ecology (e.g., deep-sea, coral, wetland, barrier island), marine geology, marine fisheries, aquaculture, environmental toxicology, microbiology, and organic geochemistry. Because of the intended connections with on-going LUMCON research programs, proximity to our R/V Acadiana and coastal-class (R/V Pelican and its replacement R/V Pelican II) research vessels, as well as close access to a new regional class research vessel, R/V Gilbert R. Mason, this position will be based at the DeFelice Marine Center (Laboratory) in Cocodrie, Louisiana. Candidates should have a strong publication record, a history of funded research, and potential for funding their research, as well as a strong commitment to education and outreach and a demonstrated commitment to student and adult education. Preference will be given to candidates who can clearly demonstrate an existing or planned research program that maximizes the locality and research assets, including the DeFelice Marine Center, Blue Works, and research vessels, and complements and extends the strengths of LUMCON and the Consortium. An academic appointment at one or more of LUMCON?s Consortium universities will be required after the incumbent is hired. Positions carry a competitive 9-month salary with 3 additional months possible from grants, strong benefits and retirement packages, and a start-up budget. A six-year review similar to tenure is conducted for promotion to Associate Professor. However, LUMCON is not a tenure-granting institution. Teakettle is a 1300 ha old-growth, mixed-conifer forest 80 km east of Fresno, CA in the southern Sierra Nevada. This summer/fall we will be collecting post-wildfire data following the 2025 Garnet Fire. The aquatic researcher will work alongside 5 forest technicians (see other recent job posting) and 1 supervisor on a joint forestry and watershed project measuring the response to the Garnet Fire. The aquatic technician will assist with water sampling surveys and maintaining aquatic sensors, as well as working with the forest technician crew re-measuring forest structure plots, including basic tree measurements and conducting fuels transect surveys. Desired skills include previous experience working as a field crew member in a remote location. Experience taking streamflow measurements, working with aquatic sensors, tree identification, and basic knowledge of tree and fuels measurements are preferred but not required. The facilities at Teakettle are rustic due to the remote location of the station. The cabin has solar power, bathrooms, a kitchen and common space; individuals will spend the field season sleeping in tents. The nearest town for supplies is Shaver Lake, CA, approximately a 1-hour drive from the field station. The aquatic technician is needed May-September 2026 and the position is benefits eligible.
