*MS position at Utah State on dust/ecology*

*MS position available in the Environmental Biogeochemistry Lab (*
*https://janicebrahney.weebly.com/* <https://janicebrahney.weebly.com/>*)
in the Watershed Sciences Department at Utah State University*

*Project: Dust generation and composition from the Great Salt Lake Playa*

*Responsibilities:* The successful candidate will be involved with a
project examining the spatial and temporal variability in dust composition,
generation, and transport from the Great Salt Lake (GSL) playa. Increasing
consumptive water use in combination with drought is driving the GSL to the
lowest levels seen in over 160 years, exposing vast areas of lakebed to
erosion and entrainment. The GSL is surrounded by a large population center
making increased dust entrainment as well as dust composition of high
concern. The MS student project has freedom of scope, but will involve the
analysis of either cyanotoxins and pathogens within dusts, or the effects
of dusts on plant communities and agriculture. The candidate should have a
degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
The successful candidates will have opportunities to develop their own
ideas within the broader context of the project and collaborate with a PhD
student.

*Minimum Qualifications:*

- Analytical laboratory experience

- Meticulous attention to detail

- Ability to conduct fieldwork

*Preferred Qualifications*

- Strong interest and experience in biogeochemistry

- Proficiency in statistical computing software

- Experience with analytical procedures in one or more of the
following areas, spectrophotometry, Ion Chromatography, ELISA, sediment
core analyses, or other relevant techniques.

- Interest in communicating with diverse stakeholders

*How to Apply*

Please send 1) a letter describing your background, interest in the
research area specifically addressing how you anticipate contributing to
the project goals, and your educational and career goals, 2) your
unofficial transcript, and 3) a CV that includes your GRE scores and the
names and contact information for three references to Janice.brahney at usu.edu.
Review of applications is ongoing and the position will remain open until
filled.
