Position Highlights
The Tropical Climate & Coral Reefs Laboratory in the Department of
Geosciences at the University of Arizona is seeking a Laboratory
Coordinator. Our laboratory uses natural archives of past climate-primarily
from corals and lake systems-to study tropical climate variability and
change. Leveraging this information, and experiments at the Biosphere 2
Ocean mesocosm. Our research ultimately aims to assess the impact of
changing ocean conditions on coral reef ecosystems and to improve coral reef
resilience. The Tropical Climate and Coral Reefs Laboratory consists of
three separate laboratories for (1) preparation of carbonate samples, (2)
preparation of lake and marine sediment samples, and (3) trace elemental
geochemistry. Our trace elemental clean laboratory will house an inductively
coupled plasma mass spectrometer (Thermo Element2), dedicated analysis of
trace elemental ratios in marine carbonates (Sr/Ca, Mn/Ca, B/Ca, Li/Ca,
Mg/Ca, Li/Mg), and trace metal concentrations in aqueous materials
(primarily sea waters, digested sediments and pore waters). We encourage
candidates who will expand the lab's research portfolio by developing new
research projects and proposals. In addition to our geochemical facilities,
candidates have the opportunity to lead research projects in the Biosphere 2
Ocean-the largest experimental ocean and coral reef in the world.
