Position Summary

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at Metropolitan State
University of Denver is seeking applicants for a one-year, full-time
lecturer position in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position is
for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience
working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment
to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach lower and upper division courses in the
Geospatial Sciences program. (For a list of courses taught, go to:

Lecturers teach 30 credits per academic year, which translates to four or
five courses per semester, depending upon credit hours assigned for courses.
Courses may include online, face-to-face, or hybrid courses in the day, or
sometimes during the evening.

The successful candidate must be able to:
1. Work with students from a variety of backgrounds and ages, teaching a
variety of geospatial sciences courses that include GIS, remote sensing,
spatial modeling. remote sensing, cartography, data modeling, database
development, python scripting, and/or other current geospatial science
topics.
2. Facilitate student learning by introducing real-world problems through
spatial data development, modeling, visualization, and analysis, using
ArcGIS and other geospatial software.
3. Comply with the university's policy, regarding student evaluations.

Required Qualifications

A Master's Degree in Geography with an emphasis in Geospatial
Sciences/Geographic Information Systems (GIS)


Preferred Qualifications

. Ph.D. in Geography or related field with an emphasis in Geospatial
Sciences/Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
. Experience teaching a variety of geospatial science courses, including
courses such as spatial modeling, remote sensing, cartography, data
modeling, spatial database, python scripting, and/or other geospatial
science topics
. Experience with ArcGIS, GIS Pro, and/or other geospatial software, applied
to both theoretical and applied problems in geography, environmental
science, geology, meteorology, and/or sustainable development
. In addition, the successful candidate should show a commitment to
providing a high-quality educational experience for undergraduate students
in a diverse urban setting
. Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban
student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA
students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students,
students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students,
student veterans, and English-language learners
