Position Opening - Postdoctoral Research Associate:

Carbon Sequestration & Biogeochemistry



This position will contribute to the study of land-use transitions to agroforestry and perennial agroecosystems. Strong skills in field experimentation and data collection are required. Examples of projects include:

*        Taking baseline soil samples to serve as a foundation for a long-term agroecological experiment

*        Measuring biogeochemical fluxes, including N leaching, N2O emissions, and soil respiration

*        Establishing data collection protocols for long-term field experiments

*        Setting up and maintaining an eddy covariance system in a hazelnut agroforestry system



Job Description


Hours: Full-time

Location: Madison, WI; Dodgeville, WI; or nearby; potential for joint affiliation with university

Start Date: August 1, 2020 or as soon as possible

Salary: Commensurate with experience




*        This position is eligible for the Institute's benefits package.

Required Qualifications:

*        PhD (at time of start date) in ecology, biogeochemistry, crop science, environmental science, or a related field

*        Strong skills in field experimentation and data collection

*        Previous evidence of academic scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications

*        Proven ability to plan and implement independent research projects from start to finish

*        Commitment to participating in a collaborative environment



Ideal candidates will have:

*        Experience supervising field research technicians

*        Demonstrated ability to write and secure research grants

*        Thorough knowledge of scripting in the R programming language

*        Familiarity with agroforestry, forestry, grazing, or other perennial agricultural practices

*        Experience setting up and maintaining eddy covariance systems
