Two PhD Research Assistantship Positions Available in Environmental Chemistry / Toxicology



Agency: Center for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences, Department of Chemistry at Southern Illinois University



Location: Carbondale, IL



Job description: Seeking motivated doctoral students to join an established environmental chemistry / toxicology group. The Lydy lab currently studies a range of cutting edge topics within the field including investigating the impacts or urban runoff on aquatic systems including, but not limited to, fires in California, determining the bioavailability and sublethal effects of contaminants on protected fish species like Chinook salmon and Pallid sturgeon, and examining the scope and potential costs of pesticide resistance in model aquatic invertebrates. The successful candidates will ideally have a background in either environmental toxicology or chemistry and method development and instrumentation experience. The aquatic toxicology lab (http://www.aquatictox.siu.edu) at SIU houses a well-equipped analytical chemistry lab, as well as a large modern aquatics facility.



Qualifications: Master’s degree or BS with experience in Chemistry, Environmental Biology, Toxicology or related field. Desired qualifications include experience with toxicological bioassays, field surveys and/or analytical instrumentation (GC-MS; LC-MS). Good writing skills required.



Salary: Research assistantships will include a competitive salary, full tuition waiver, health benefits and support for the proposed research.
