Seeks Candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor Tenure Track-Academic Year



Position: We seek a dynamic colleague who will excel in teaching core undergraduate and graduate geology courses and establishing a strong research program. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, and a strong record of publication and potential to garner research funding and mentor graduate students.



Qualifications:  The candidate must possess an earned Ph.D. in geology or a closely-related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment. A demonstrated record of active research and publication is also required.



Responsibilities:  The ideal candidate will support the educational mission of the department by teaching one or more of our core undergraduate and graduate geology classes (e.g., Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry, Sedimentology & Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, etc.). They will support the research mission of the department by developing and maintaining an externally funded research program, publishing in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, supervising undergraduate and graduate student researchers, and supporting the activities of the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education (MGRRE) and the Michigan Geological Survey (MGS). Although not required, we especially welcome candidates who have experience with and an interest in using stable isotope mass spectrometry in their research. This is a full-time, academic year position at the WMU campus in Kalamazoo, MI.



Department: The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, which is comprised of 13 faculty members, is research-active and nationally-ranked. The department confers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and graduate and undergraduate certificates. The disciplinary strengths of the department include hydrogeology, remote sensing/geophysics, sedimentary geology, geochemistry, glacial geology, and environmental and resource analysis. The department is home to a collection of analytical equipment, including but not limited to a stable isotope mass spectrometer, scanning electron microscope, x-ray diffractometer, remote sensing and geophysical equipment, x-ray fluorescence analyzer, and triple isotope water analyzer. Also housed within the department is the MGS, which supports and advocates for applied research and mapping within the State of Michigan, and the MGRRE, which houses the largest collection of subsurface samples and data related to both hydrocarbon and water resources in the region.
