Staff Hydrologist
Description
The Staff Hydrologist will be responsible for preparing technical scopes of work, conducting field investigations, completing data analysis, developing conceptual site models, assisting with hydrologic system design, and reporting to support the needs of clients in the US and abroad. This position requires superior written and verbal communication skills to effectively interface with staff personnel, clients, and vendors. An employee in this position is expected to work as a member of diverse project teams and accomplish specific tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Candidates should have a background (academic and/or experience) in quantitative hydrology and/or hydrogeology. The successful applicant will be expected to apply fundamental scientific and mathematical principles to solve water resource related problems such as quality, quantity, and availability. The position involves the collection and analysis of environmental and hydrological data to characterize site conditions and predict/assess/remediate the impacts of land use and environmental changes.

Requirements
Education Requirement: A Bachelor's degree in hydrology or related fields such as hydrogeology, geology, hydrochemistry, or environmental engineering; a Master's degree is preferred. Candidates should have a conceptual understanding of fundamental hydrology principles including the relationship between precipitation and runoff; the prediction and monitoring of precipitation, water yields and water use; stormwater management; flood forecasting/flood frequency analysis; and the development of water budgets. Coursework in fluid mechanics, open-channel hydraulics, geomorphology, statistics, and hydrological modelling techniques is not required but will be considered favorably.
Experience Requirement: A minimum of one year of experience working in the environmental, industrial, or water supply sectors. Candidates should have experience in surface water and groundwater sampling techniques, as well as managing on-site data collection. Proficiency developing stage-discharge relationships and use of basic flow measurements methods, such as the velocity-area method and use of flumes/weirs, is preferred.
Software: Position requires applicant to have working knowledge of Microsoft Office(c) software including Access, Excel, and ESRI ArcMap. Proficiency using modeling programs such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-55, MODFLOW and FEFLOW is advantageous.
Potential Travel: Frequent travel to project sites located in the Western US, and elsewhere, both domestic and international.
Physical Demands: The successful applicant will be expected to be comfortable performing multiple complex tasks while working outside, in remote locations, under difficult weather conditions, and for long durations. Position may require sitting for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of landscapes and climates and may require multiple long days hiking through steep terrain, standing, squatting, bending, and using machinery and a variety of tools.
