Full time

ClimaCell is revolutionizing weather forecasting by combining
Weather-of-Things data -everything from cell tower transmissions to data
from airplanes, drones and connected cars -with cutting edge models. The
result: forecasts that are hyper accurate, specific, and customizable. We
call it MicroWeather and we offer this street-by-street,
minute-by-minuteaccuracy worldwide. Our customers are companies from
weather-sensitive industries (Aviation,Construction, Energy, Outdoor Events
etc), companies in the on-demand world, emergingeconomies, and people like
you and me who simply don't want to get caught in the rain.

As an NWP Project Scientist, you will conduct independent research and
development of applications for weather forecasting, real-time weather
analysis, data assimilation, and data quality control systems. Most of your
work will be spent performing Research to Operations (R2O) by leading a team
to build NWP prototypes and demos in a cloud HPC environment and then
supporting and expanding those capabilities into operations. A successful
candidate will be able to identify a spectrum of solutions for a given
problem, building on established successes in the field - but with a keen
eye on where ClimaCell can innovate with new approaches.

What it takes

*	A Ph.D in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or similar is required;
a research focus in the field of NWP with emphasis on ensemble-based DA
methods is a strong plus
*	4+ years as a senior scientist including a leadership role is
preferred
*	2+ years experience developing and supporting operational NWP
systems (or components) is highly desirable
*	Leadership experience and a deep understanding and experience with
the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and the Gridpoint
Statistical Interpolation (GSI) data assimilation (DA) system and/or the WRF
DA (WRFDA) system is required
*	Experience and/or extensive familiarity with the Model for
Prediction Across Scales (MPAS)
*	Strong background in developing and supporting NWP systems in an
operational setting
*	Strong background in a Linux development environment including
experience with high-performance computing (HPC) is required

Bonus points

*	Experience establishing V&V metrics and performing V&V analyses of
NWP systems
*	Understanding of the WRF, MAPS and GSI functionality at the Fortran
code level, not just the namelist level
*	Experience with meteorological observation data QA/QC
*	Experience using and configuring cloud-based HPC systems including
Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) systems
*	Proficient in writing code to visualize, analyze, and assess weather
forecasts and data.
*	Proficient in programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C++,
etc. but preferably Python
*	Experience performing radar reflectivity DA and/or DA of other
precipitation indicators such as from satellites
*	Experience performing satellite radiance DA in all-sky conditions
*	Experience compiling the WRF/WRFDA/GSI/MPAS codes including
debugging and optimization settings
