Become part of the growing faculty within the Department of Geosciences at
Georgia State University, an institution recognized nationally for
leadership in innovation, research growth, and the academic success of
diverse populations. *We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track
position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Geographic Information
Science* *and Geovisualization, *pending budgetary approval, to begin fall
semester 2020. This position will play a central role in the Department of
Geosciences’ contribution to Georgia State University’s strategic goals of
using collaborative research to tackle the most challenging global and
urban issues of the 21st century and ensuring that students from all
backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates. We seek
a scholar whose work focuses on geovisualization, cartography, spatial data
analytics, or closely related research area, in the interdisciplinary
fields of geography, geology, water science, or environmental
sustainability and who is committed to collaborative research with other
units on campus. Georgia State boasts thriving interdisciplinary and
multidisciplinary research communities. Within Geosciences, examples of
multidisciplinary efforts include work that integrates earth-system
science, geoinformatics, and public health. Opportunities for support
include internal research grants, summer funding, teaching release time,
graduate research assistantships, travel funds, and assistance in pursuing
external funding. Our faculty benefit from the availability of state-of-the
art analytical equipment including research computing cycles, access to
regional and national cyberinfrastructure via GSU’s SURAgrid membership, an
interactive visualization wall with 25 million active pixels, as well as
proximity to other research institutions and federal agencies (e.g., CDC,
EPA, and USGS).

PhD students through agreements with the Department of Chemistry and the
Urban Studies Institute.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining an active,
funded research agenda, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the
candidate’s area of expertise, and participating in service at the
department, college, and university levels.



*Qualifications*

Essential Qualifications

·      Ph.D. at the time of appointment

·      A record of publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals

·      A record of pursuing external funding appropriate to the applicant’s
career stage



Preferred Qualifications

·      Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting

·      A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds

·      A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career
stage
