The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Center for
Climate Science seek a postdoctoral scholar to be supervised by Prof. Alex
Hall and Dr. Naomi Goldenson, contributing to efforts to understand
regional changes to the hydrologic cycle in partnership with stakeholders
in California. The term would initially be for one year, but is renewable
for at least one additional year, contingent on funding and satisfactory
progress.

The general research involves using global and regional climate models to
identify and understand regional changes in the hydrologic cycle under
climate change, with a particular focus on heavy precipitation and drought
in California. This position is unique in that it includes engagement with
water managers and other stakeholders. In particular we seek to formulate
storylines to quantify likely climate impacts in a scientifically
justifiable and accessible manner.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or a related field,
effective oral and written communication skills, and strong programming and
analytical skills. Experience with or inclination to learn Python is
preferred. Candidates should demonstrate interest in both the relevant
outstanding regional climate questions and the process of informing
research questions through stakeholder interactions.

Applicants should submit (1) a statement of research interests and goals,
no longer than one page, and (2) a complete CV, including contact
information for three references. These materials should be addressed to
Ms. Katharine Reich at kreich at ioes.ucla.edu. Please mention where you saw
this posting. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and
continue until the position is filled.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for
employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected
veteran status. For the complete University of California nondiscrimination
and affirmative action policy, please follow this link:
