Job Description
PURPOSE:
Provide analysis and support for the Port of Seattle's (POS) projects and programs focused on carbon reduction and air quality improvements as directed by the Port's Century Agenda and associated sustainability strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive list of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Climate Change and Air Quality Strategy: Provide analysis and support for the development and implementation of the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy, Maritime Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction Strategy, the Seattle Waterfront Clean Energy Strategic Plan, Sustainable Fleet Plan and other internal and external projects with emission impacts, such as the provision of shore power for cruise ships and integration of sustainability into capital project delivery. Work will span multiple Port departments, involve engagement with external stakeholders and address all sectors of Port emissions.
* Maritime GHG Emission Inventory: Conduct annual GHG inventories for Port of Seattle's maritime operations and services and support periodic updates to the Puget Sound Air Emission Inventory. Conduct annual internal emission reporting in partnership with Aviation Environmental. Work will include data collection, analysis, tracking, reporting and communication.
* Climate Research: Research new technologies, fuels, policies or business practices that pertain to the Port's environmental and sustainability programs. Analyze impacts of strategies on a sustainability basis and develop recommendations.
* Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret policies, regulations, and proposed legislation related to climate change, air quality and sustainability. Analyze environmental, social and financial impacts on the seaport and make recommendations as appropriate.
* Sustainability Communication and Reporting: Provide periodic updates on efficacy and status of maritime emission reduction efforts. Conduct presentations on general environmental issues to Port employees and the public. Develop educational and informational materials related to maritime environmental programs. Support sustainability engagement with port-adjacent communities, industry, governments and other partners.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging climate change mitigation and air quality improvement strategies and how to conduct emission inventories and measure change. Strong technical knowledge and expertise evaluating the environmental, social, and financial costs and benefits associated with GHG and air pollutant emissions. Ability to evaluate the total cost of ownership related to the maritime transportation sector.
Ability to research, analyze, and communicate in both written and verbal presentations and briefings on transportation and other emission reduction projects as appropriate. Ability to calculate potential emission reductions from existing and strategies and practices, as well as the ability to develop and track appropriate metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Combination of education and experience demonstrative knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field; and
* Three (3) years' experience managing or supporting climate change, air quality or sustainability projects or programs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master's of Environmental Policy, Environmental Science or Marine Affairs and;
* Five (5) years' experience managing or supporting climate change or sustainability projects or programs

Driver's License Requirement:
A valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required.
Weekly Standard Hours:
Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
