The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is seeking applicants for two positions on the Air Modeling Team.

Modeling & Assessment Specialist V (position L20027)
Job Description:
Develops modeling emissions inventories (EI), conducts evaluations, and quality assures various emissions data for input into photochemical air pollution computer simulations for State Implementation Plans (SIPs) for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Develops, assesses, and conducts quality assurance on emissions inventory (EI) or meteorological data necessary to conduct photochemical and other regulatory air pollution modeling in support of state implementation plans (SIP). Develops automation routines to assess and troubleshoot potential errors. Conducts and/or coordinates analyses and validation of data. Develops, evaluates, and implements new data preparation, data management, modeling, and analysis techniques in support of SIPs and air quality planning and research. Oversees complex scientific projects, including coordinating the development, analysis and evaluation of environmental databases. Prepares SIP documentation and reports, including graphical representation of data, following United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and TCEQ guidance, including accessibility requirements. Interacts with local/state/federal agencies, stakeholders, universities, researchers, contractors, and the public on matters related to air quality scientific/technical activities of the Air Quality Division. Oversees or assists in the oversight of contracts. Provides technical guidance, advice, training, and/or mentoring to modeling staff and/or other staff of the Office of Air.

Natural Resources Specialist V (position L20064)
Job Description:
Coordinates and provides technical guidance and expertise on highly complex scientific air quality planning and research activities and issues for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Coordinates and oversees modeling activities related to air quality planning (state implementation plan [SIP]) activities, such as protocol development; task scheduling; post-processing and analyzing modeling results; coordination of activities with other groups and other project managers; and the design, development and review of supporting documentation. Uses and develops complex visualization tools to evaluate and review overall photochemical model performance and determining how well the model predicts future pollutant concentrations. Prepares and conducts advanced quality assurance reviews on photochemical and other regulatory modeling input files (e.g., supporting meteorological and/or emissions data) in support of SIP development. Develops, directs, and oversees highly advanced air quality research contract and/or grant projects and reviews consistent with management guidelines, serving as project leader and providing guidance to participants. Communicates complex air quality information to TCEQ staff and management, external stakeholder groups, elected officials, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Provides technical guidance, advice, and training to modeling staff. Participates in planning related to future activities, including reviews of innovative air quality improvement technologies and measurement methodologies, evaluation of new modeling technologies, and design of future modeling studies/programs.
