Job Description and Duties

This is a Permanent Intermittent position and is limited to 1500 hours per calendar year.

The Research Division provides the highest quality scientific information and promotes technologies with potential for protecting the health of the people and the environment of California from the effects of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. The Air Quality and Climate Science Section (Section) in the Atmospheric Science and Climate Strategies Branch is tasked to advance our understanding of emerging climate science and implement multiple climate mitigation regulations. A secondary mission of the Section is to lead research efforts on climate science, GHG inventory, and air quality analyses to inform policy direction and advance the health-protection mission of the agency. The Section is seeking a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the team in air quality research to support CARB's emission reduction strategies (e.g. State Implementation Plan).

Under general supervision by the section manager or senior staff, this incumbent is expected to conduct analyses for criteria pollutants (e.g., ozone, PM2.5, and their precursors) and toxic air contaminants and to assist in air quality research campaigns to gather field measurements. This includes assessing the data post-processing, data quality assurance, reviewing ambient and emission inventory data, and conducting spatial and temporal analyses of these pollutants.
