Assistantship Description: A graduate assistantship for an exceptional doctoral and/or master’s student is available at the Abney Soil Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. The incoming student(s) will pursue research on the role of prescribed fire and forestry management techniques in driving shifts in soil biogeochemical cycles. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Qualifications: Candidates with related educational background and work experience are encouraged to apply. Preferred candidates will have experience with some of the following: fieldwork; soils; chemistry; ecosystem ecology approaches; and writing and presenting scientific work in publications and/or at conferences.

Stipend and Benefits: This assistantship is based on a 40% stipend (16 hours/week) for a PhD student - $22,645/yr; or 40% stipend for MS - $20,951/yr. The student will receive a full-tuition waiver; however, is expected to pay a matriculation fee of $25 and mandated student and activity fees totaling approximately $1,145/semester. All students on assistantship are required to have health insurance, and half of the premium for the University System’s health insurance plan is paid by the University of Georgia. Assistance with mandated student fees and application fees may be available for competitive applicants.
