Dear colleagues,

We are currently looking for at least one postdoctoral researcher to join the E3SM Biogeochemical Cycles group. We’d be grateful if you could forward this to any potential candidates.

In addition, we would like to help spread the word that PNNL’s Atmospheric Science and Global Change Division, currently has a total of >25 open positions, at all levels: https://www.pnnl.gov/atmospheric/jobs.asp

Thank you and best regards,
Kate Calvin (E3SM Biogeochemistry Group Lead, katherine.calvin at pnnl.gov<mailto:katherine.calvin at pnnl.gov>)
Susannah Burrows (E3SM Biogeochemistry Deputy Group Lead, susannah.burrows at pnnl.gov<mailto:susannah.burrows at pnnl.gov>)

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is recruiting a creative, energetic, and collaboration-oriented postdoctoral scientist to analyze simulations of the global coupled carbon-climate system as simulated by the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM; https://e3sm.org/), and using emissions scenarios from the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM;http://www.globalchange.umd.edu/gcam/).

Tasks for this position may include: (1) analysis and evaluation of atmospheric CO2 distributions in historical E3SM simulations, and comparison with the observational record, (2) analysis of atmospheric CO2 in simulations with different future energy use scenarios and/or representations of biogeochemical processes, and (3) analysis of total carbon flow through the coupled Earth system, including exchanges of atmospheric carbon with land, ocean and energy systems and processes.

Preferred qualifications:
Experience with analyzing simulation output from global or regional climate, Earth System, chemical transport or air quality models is preferred for this position. Expertise in advanced statistical methods (e.g., inversion, data assimilation) and/or the carbon cycle and greenhouse gas observations is also a plus.

This is a two-year full-time position, with a possibility to extend for a third year, and beginning as soon as possible (start date negotiable). The position will be located either in Richland, WA or in College Park, MD.

Applicants should apply by 3 January 2020 using the PNNL online application system<https://careers.pnnl.gov/psc/hrmsx/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_FL.HRS_CG_SEARCH_FL.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_JBPST&PostingSeq=1&SiteId=1&FOCUS=Applicant&JobOpeningId=310100>, and provide (1) a cover letter, (2) a current CV, and (3) the names and contact information of three professional references. Review of applications will begin after the position has closed.
