We are currently seeking an Aquatic Ecologist to support the Ecological Sciences group in the Research Triangle Park, NC office.

What You'll Get to Do: We are in search of a new team member to join our family of engineers and scientists with a strong quantitative skillset to support municipal, state, federal and private projects throughout the United States. This is an engaging and high impact professional position where you will work closely with national industry and research leaders to provide technical support for our clients in evidence-based decision-making employing a variety of skills including: literature review, conceptual modeling, problem formulation, study design, ecological monitoring and assessment, biogeochemical modeling and analysis, phytoplankton analysis, statistical modeling, ecological services analysis, and science communication. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a team member to support and manage routine and non-routine environmental projects of substantial variety and complexity, typically under the direct supervision of a Senior Scientist.

In this position you will assist a Senior Scientist in designing, managing, and completing projects. You will assist with the design, construct, and management of large often national scale environmental databases, design and implement empirical statistical analytical models, design, manage and conduct literature reviews of and synthesize advanced scientific information, and effectively communicate results in oral and written form including for peer-reviewed publication. You will have the opportunity to provide scientific research support. You must be able to perform work which requires analysis and original thinking and have a proven record of presenting work to scientific, management and non-technical audiences and publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals. Assignments may not have clear and specified objectives, and thus, may require original thought and development of technical approaches (e.g., independently design, evaluate, select, and apply standard scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria, using informed judgment in making adaptations and modifications). More About This Role

Your responsibilities will include:

*Review and synthesize scientific literature from environmental science areas including, for example: aquatic ecology, nutrient especially nitrogen biogeochemistry, harmful algal bloom ecology, climate change effects on aquatic ecosystems, environmental stressors, or environmental indicator development
*Develop and apply statistical analysis tools to environmental monitoring and assessment program data
*Conduct statistical analyses using R, Python and/or equivalent software using a variety of novel statistical techniques including but not limited to: traditional univariate and multivariate analysis, linear and hierarchical models, and machine learning methods
*Calculate and interpret empirical biogeochemical data including rates of nutrient cycling, especially for nitrogen cycles, and metabolism and relate these to environmental predictors
*Develop original analytical syntheses for technical report and scientific publication
*Communicate scientific results to technical and non-technical audiences in spoken and written form
*Develop manuscripts for publication in scientific journals including tables, figures, and technical text
*Help design and oversee development of web-based products including web applications
*Manage projects and technical staff under supervision of a senior manage













You'll Bring These Qualifications:
*Master's degree in an ecological/environmental discipline, and a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience or PhD.
*Experience with the application of data science/data analytics; advanced data analysis, interpretation, data visualization and presentation, is require
*Proficiency with R statistical software/GitHub, Python, and MS Office Suite
*Strong data interpretation and technical writing skills are required including primary authorship of original research in peer reviewed journals
*Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation of research to scientific peers
*Experience managing independent research and personnel required
*Flexibility and ability to collaborate as well as work independently
