The successful applicant will join a multi-institution interdisciplinary research team seeking to better understand atmosphere-land surface interactions, with a primarily focus on precipitation and mass wastage events. Research will involve learning, development, use, and advance of in situ and remote environmental observations (e.g., weather radar), as well as numerical models of the atmosphere and land surface hydrology (e.g., WRF-Hydro). The successful applicant will be advised by and work in close collaboration with Jiali Wang and Scott Collis at Argonne National Laboratory and Daniel Horton at Northwestern. Particularly desirable qualities include: Masters or BS in atmospheric science (or similar), interest in extreme precipitation (to include atmospheric rivers), robust written and oral communication skills, experience with high performance computing, and a desire to conduct and document open source science.
