Environmental Scientist, Beltsville, Maryland

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist in our Beltsville, MD operation. The Environmental Scientist will support our staff of experienced Project Managers. Primary duties will include completion of field work to include site assessments consisting of soil, groundwater and air sampling, monitor well installation, field pilot testing and Phase I and II Due Diligence Studies. Oversight of UST Removal and Replacement efforts and oversight of dewatering projects.

Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following:

*         Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.

*         Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.

*         Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.

*         Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.

*         Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.

*         Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

*         Works under general supervision.

Minimum Requirements
*         Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience OR demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

*         Master's degree in Environmental Science or the geosciences

*         40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred

*         Knowledge of remediation systems, their operation, maintenance and repair a plus.

*         Individual will also be expected to write portions of reports, manage databases, and support site remediation efforts.
