Employment OpportunitiesColumbia University, Postdoctoral Research
Scientist in Cloud and Aerosol Microphysical Modeling

The Center for Climate Systems Research <http://ccsr.columbia.edu/> in
the Earth
Institute <http://earth.columbia.edu/> of Columbia University
<http://www.columbia.edu/> is accepting applications for a post-doctoral
researcher in aerosol and cloud microphysical parameterizations.

This position is part of the Aerosol Cloud Meteorology Interactions Over
the Western Atlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) NASA Earth Venture program,
which aims towards a better understanding of aerosol — cloud interactions,
through the use of measurements obtained from an aircraft campaign. A
related focus is on advancing the parameterizations of physical processes
essential to improving aerosol — cloud interactions, including aerosol
microphysical processes, droplet activation, and cloud microphysical
processes. Specifically, the project will examine and develop new analysis
techniques to bridge the scale mismatch between aircraft measurements and
large-scale climate models through large-eddy simulations (LES) and a
single column model (SCM) representation of the climate model column
physics.

Specific job duties and responsibilities will include:

   - Synthesizing a broad suite of atmospheric measurements (in situ and
remote sensing) that characterize aerosols, clouds and meteorology, to
devise case studies to drive large-eddy and single column model
   simulations.
   - Running simulations and analyzing results from a suite of models,
ultimately improving physical parameterizations in models.
   - Supporting the flight planning mission team.
   - Work closely with other scientists on the project.
   - Publish peer-reviewed articles.
   - Present findings at national and international meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in atmospheric sciences, physics, chemistry, meteorology, engineering,
or related/relevant field.

Qualified candidates should possess: experience in numerical modeling,
cloud and/or aerosol physics and data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cloud and aerosol microphysical parameterizations.

Excellent command (verbal and written) of the English language,
organization and meticulousness, and strong interpersonal skills desired.
Additional Information

The anticipated target start date for this position is July 1, 2019.

Appointment will be initially be for 1 year, with potential to renew up to
3 years contingent upon performance.

Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will
continue until the position is filled.

Columbia University benefits offered with this Officer of Research
appointment.

This position is located at the Center for Climate Systems Research at the
the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies at Columbia University's
Morningside campus.
Application Information:

We accept online applications only.

Submit your application, including a cover letter, which should detail past
research experience and future interests, current CV, and the names, phone
numbers and email addresses of three references.
