Post-doctoral position ocean mesoscale/submesoscale dynamics at McGill
We have funding for a postdoctoral researcher to start in summer 2019. The
project addresses issues relating to balance and imbalance, as reflected in
the ocean sea surface height field and at horizontal scales near the
mesoscale-submesoscale transition. The approach uses a mixture of theory and
idealized numerical simulations. The work could also involve a surface
gravity wave modelling component, the idea there being that surface
wave-modification of the effective wind forcing impacts sea surface height.
The context of the project is the ocean topography component of the upcoming
SWOT mission. It is expected that SWOT will measure, at least in places, sea
surface height on scales where the distinction between balance and imbalance
becomes blurred. The project thus aims to help clarify how to interpret
these measurements. We expect to be able to over a salary of about $45,000
per year for at least two years; however, the amount may be negotiable,
subject to confirmation of additional funds.
Interested applicants should contact David Straub, david.straub at mcgill.ca
(please put SWOT Postdoc in the subject line).
Other team members include Louis-Philippe Nadeau, UQAR (Quebec) and Peter
Bartello of McGill.
