The Project Coordinator I will work closely with the Director of Translational Research and other Key Investigators at the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health (CCCEH), Department of Environmental Health Sciences, at the Mailman School of Public Health. The role involves a number of responsibilities, as follows:

1) Candidate will be responsible for working with the Director of Translational Research/Principal Investigator on the research, support and coordination of several private and federal grants. Day to day responsibilities include: scheduling and attending project meetings, circulating meeting notes and action items, monitoring project progress, reviewing budgets and expenditures, setting up subcontracts, maintaining Institutional Review Board approval, coordinating specimen usage between projects, and writing progress reports for funding agencies.

2) Candidate will conduct research on the health and economic costs of environmental exposures of interest as they relate to adverse neurodevelopmental and other health outcomes and the benefits of policy changes and other interventions.

3) Candidate will take an active role in the research, writing, preparation, and submission of federal and private grant proposals, including drafting budgets, compiling and formatting biosketches, and editing.

4) Candidate will assist the Director of Translational Research and other key investigators in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, drafting letters of support, writing, editing, and proofreading scientific manuscripts, and communication of scientific data to the community, policymakers and the public.

5) Candidate will assist in the organization of conferences and workshops on the science concerning the health and economic impacts of air pollutants/toxics and climate change and the benefits of government policies and other interventions aimed at reducing those impacts.

6) Candidate will aid in managing donor relations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience and at least two years of related experience.

A strong background in epidemiology or environmental health sciences is required.

The candidate should also possess the following qualities:
1) Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
2) Ability to work independently and as part of a team
3) Solid organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently
4) Competency at tracking and managing incoming paperwork
5) Ability to act as a point of contact when communicating the most up-to-date information to team members
6) Capacity to translate project objectives into tasks
7) Ability to work with tight deadlines

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications

A Master's degree preferred in a related field of study on public health, epidemiology, environmental health sciences.

Applicants with prior experience as a research assistant or project coordinator or those with experience in grant writing, planning and schedule management are encouraged to apply.

Background in molecular biology, environmental economics and/or health policy analysis is desirable.

Essential Functions
