Responsibilities
The North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NC CASC - https://casc.usgs.gov/) works with natural and cultural resource managers to gather the scientific information and build the tools needed to help fish, wildlife, and ecosystems adapt to the impacts of climate variability and change. As a Social Scientist/Physical Scientist within the NC CASC, some of your specific duties will include:
o Provides administrative, logistical, and scientific support for NC CASC Leadership pursuant to the overall operation and management of the NC CASC.
o Assists with monitoring the progress of science projects funded by the NC CASC to assure that work is satisfactory and meets USGS science excellence and publication requirements.
o Supports the delivery of actionable science for informed decision-making, with particular emphasis on knowledge co-production and science translation.
o Prepares oral and written summaries and syntheses, reports, documents, and briefing materials to support translation of scientific results of NC CASC projects and other relevant research for partners and stakeholders.
o Provides facilitation and organizational support for meetings, workshops, and trainings with partners and stakeholders, in addition to logistical support for event planning and implementation.

Occasional travel - Approximately 2 nights each month.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position
* Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Qualifications
Social Scientist, GS-0101-11:
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the basic requirement stated above, applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
--3-years of progressively higher level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a Ph.D. degree in behavioral or social science or other directly related field of study or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in behavioral or social science or other directly related field of study if it provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position to be filled.
--OR 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: supporting social science projects/studies related to analyzing and interpreting research on the impacts of and solutions to climatic and other environmental changes relevant to natural and cultural resources; participating in research efforts; preparing summaries, reports, documents and presentations; and independently performing moderately difficult and responsible scientific work.
--OR a combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, that is beyond the second year of progressive graduate study and professional experience, as described above. Physical Scientist, GS-1301-11:
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Physical Scientist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. A combination of education and experience--education equivalent to one of the majors shown in "A" above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science, engineering, or mathematics) that included at least 24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science and/or related engineering science as described above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.
