We’re advertising for a 3 year postdoctoral scientist to work on a collaborative project in atmospheric monitoring with the National Physical Laboratory (UK) and Imperial College London. The project is to work on the methods for sampling atmospheric methane for radiocarbon analysis. Understanding methane fluxes is a significant challenge and the use of radiocarbon measurements has major potential to make an impact in this field. Reducing anthropogenic methane emissions is critical in the coming decades in order to fulfil national and global targets for climate change mitigation. This work will require experience in instrument development and/or the setup of techniques for atmospheric trace gas measurement. There will be significant opportunities to work in broader areas of atmospheric monitoring and measurement interpretation, and for involvement in national and international projects for improved monitoring of greenhouse gas fluxes.
