Oceanographic Data Specialist - Lynker

Lynker Technologies, LLC is seeking to hire an Oceanographic Data Specialist
to provide quality control and assurance of physical oceanographic and
meteorological data for NOAA's Center for Operational Oceanographic Products
and Services (CO-OPS).

The duties and responsibilities of the Data Specialist position include, but
are not limited to:

*        Performing routine data processing involving quality control and
assurance of water level and currents data in a database environment,
following established priority designations and ensuring adherence to CO-OPS
standard operating procedures (SOPs).

*        Providing detailed information or analytical support of
oceanographic data and related products using database queries, metadata
source investigations, or other in-depth analyses.

*        Applying oceanographic knowledge to generate operational products
that are derived from physical oceanographic data and support safe marine
navigation and other applications in the coastal marine environment.

*        Participates on project teams, working groups and committees
related to the development of physical oceanographic applications from water
level data sets.

*        Assists in the development and presentation of technical trainings
and procedural workshops and any additional briefings, as assigned.

*        Assists in writing technical reports and Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs);.

Qualifications and skills sought for this position:

*        Bachelor of Science degree in oceanography, meteorology, marine
sciences, hydrography, physics, physical science, or a closely related
discipline is required.

*        Knowledge of basic physical oceanographic principles, especially
those related to tides and tidal currents, is highly desirable. Any
undergraduate or graduate courses and/or work experiences related to
oceanography, marine engineering, meteorology, and related subjects are
preferred.

*        Must be proficient in using a desktop computer and MS Office Suite
for analyzing and processing data. General database and query experience is
preferred.

*        Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and experience
with commercial GIS software such as ESRI, GeoTools, Mapinfo, or ArcGIS is
desirable.

*        Knowledge of and experience with Matlab, spreadsheets, statistics
databases and Structured Query Language is also a plus.
