*POSTDOC OPPORTUNITY IN NUMERICAL MODELING & REMOTE SENSING*

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate as a part of
the Transient Rip Current Dynamics: Laboratory Measurements and Modeling of
Surfzone Vorticity
<https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1735460&HistoricalAwards=false>
project funded by the National Science Foundation. The project is a
collaborative effort of the Department of Civil/Environmental Engineering
(CEE) and the Applied Physical Laboratory (APL) at the University of
Washington (UW). The project combines numerical modeling of surfzone eddies
and laboratory remote sensing of surface waves and circulation.

Requirements

The postdoc for this position will work on a combination of topics
including idealized modeling of surfzone eddy dynamics, and will also help
a graduate student in synthesis of laboratory experiment remote sensing
observations focused on optical imagery and LIDAR measurements.
Demonstrated expertise related to phase-resolved numerical modeling
(funwaveC/SWASH) and/or analysis of remotely sensed data (e.g., PIV/Surface
Tracking, LIDAR based analysis) is preferred. Candidates with a PhD degree
in Physical Oceanography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, or related fields
are encouraged to apply.

Terms

The initial appointment will be for one year, with a start date anticipated
between summer 2019 and spring 2020. Extension of the appointment to a
total 2 years will be made after a review indicating satisfactory
performance.

How to Apply
Candidates interested in the postdoctoral position should email a cover
letter and CV to Dr. Nirnimesh Kumar (nirni at uw.edu), Dr. Melissa Moulton (
mmoulton at uw.edu), and Christine Baker (cmbaker9 at uw.edu). *Review of
applicants will begin on July 15, 2019.*
