We are advertising for a postdoctoral researcher position at the U. Edinburgh to work on a collaborative project on multi-model approaches for climate and air quality services between the Universities of Edinburgh, Birmingham and the UK Met Office, the Chinese Meteorological Administration, Shanghai Meteorological Service and the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The successful candidate will examine multi model variability and multiple approaches for seasonal forecasts and climate change projections of haze and air pollution, precipitation and/or heat hazards. They will consider multiple approaches for seasonal forecasts and future projections related to air pollution levels e.g. comparing winter haze outlooks based on weather/climate variables to air pollution forecasts for urban megacities in China, and consider multiple model projections of seasonal forecasts/climate projections for robust estimates (incorporating uncertainty) e.g. of rainfall for key regions affected by flooding in China. They will work closely within an interdisciplinary team to translate these results into guidance methodologies for climate service providers and users in China. Translational Climate Services is an emerging and expanding area of interdisciplinary research of key importance to global producer centres of weather and air quality forecasts and climate change projections.
Full vacancy details can be found at: : https://www.vacancies.ed.ac.uk/pls/corehrrecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.jobspec?p_id=048457
The closing date is coming up: August 5th 2019 (but we hope will be extended to Aug 9th)
