Job Description:
The Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin (UT) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position for Raman study of methane hydrates in geological systems.

Job Details:
General Notes
The initial appointment for the position is for one year. The position could be reviewed for the second year upon successful evaluation of the first-year job performance
Responsibilities
* Pursue the micro-Raman spectroscopy study of methane hydrate at high pressure and low temperature conditions relevant to natural hydrate reservoir environments.
* Familiar with two-dimensional micro-Raman mapping using Renishaw and Horiba systems.
* Programming skill or using a commercial program in processing large amount of 2-D Raman spectra will be needed for the project.
Required Qualifications
PhD completed within the last three years in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Backgrounds in laboratory experimental equipment operation (pressure and temperature controls) and sediment sample preparation as well as knowledge in sedimentology, mineral physics and thermodynamics, and/or pore fluid dynamics
Salary Range
$50,000
