Director of Electron Microbeam Laboratory

The Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (http://geoscience.wisc.edu/geoscience/) invites applications at the Assistant, Associate, or Senior Scientist level to fill the Director’s position in the Eugene Cameron Electron Microprobe Laboratory. This is a full-time, institutionally-supported position with competitive salary. The lab houses SX51 and SX5FE electron microprobes, and a Hitachi S3400 VP scanning electron microscope. The lab serves as a hub for interdisciplinary scientific inquiry, providing hands-on training of students from disciplines across campus. Additional departmental resources include two electronics engineers, a fully-staffed thin-section lab, and a lab manager to assist with SEM maintenance and operation. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or related fields at time of appointment. Demonstrated ability and experience in the use of electron beam instruments for high-quality, quantitative analyses is required. Two or more years of daily hands-on management of an electron microprobe lab is preferred, as is demonstrated ability to pursue fundable research using electron microbeam instrumentation.
