Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Earth System Modeling at UGA
The Climate, Clouds, and Land Modeling Group in the Department of
Geography at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA (PI: Dr. Gabriel
Kooperman; http://kooperman.uga.edu) is seeking applications for a
postdoctoral research associate. The work will focus on simulating extreme
storms and precipitation events in the U.S. using state-of-the-art Earth
system models. In addition to Dr. Kooperman, the researcher will work
closely with three collaborators: Dr. Kevin Reed (Stony Brook University,
Stonybrook, NY, https://you.stonybrook.edu/kareed/), Dr. Walter Hannah
(Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA,
http://hannahlab.org), and Dr. Angie Pendergrass (National Center for
Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO, http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/staff/apgrass/).

Qualifications:
- The position requires a PhD in atmospheric/climate science or a related
field by August 1, 2019.
- Candidates should have a record of publishing in respected journals and
presenting at conferences.
- Experience conducting experiments with Earth system models and/or a
background in statistical analysis of extreme events is desirable, but
candidates whose specific experience differs and are interested in learning
these skills are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
The researcher will be responsible for:
- designing experiments,
- running simulations,
- compiling observational data,
- analyzing results,
- writing manuscripts,
- presenting results, and
- helping to develop new proposals.
