*Postdoctoral Research Scientist position
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory – Palisades, NY*

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work with the
Commane Group. The Commane group works at the intersection of
atmospheric chemistry and terrestrial ecology. Ongoing projects include
using carbonyl sulfide (OCS) to understand the mechanisms of mercury
transport in forests, measuring carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4)
in cities with fragmented forests and poor air quality and understanding
the drivers of CO2 and CH4 fluxes in the Arctic. Our fieldwork includes
airborne, tower and eddy flux measurements for sometimes extended
periods at various locations around New York, New England, Alaska and
Costa Rica. Our research also includes interpretation of these fluxes
using a variety of models to capture atmospheric transport and
terrestrial ecology.

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will operate laser-based instruments
to measure OCS at established field sites, analyze the resulting data
and work with other groups to interpret the total ecosystem fluxes of
various trace gases. They are expected to prepare data for archival and
submit publications for peer review. Experience with atmospheric field
measurements, particularly eddy flux measurements, and trace gas
calibration is a distinct advantage.

Candidates must have a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry or Physics,
Biometeorology, Terrestrial Ecology or related field with experience
measuring trace gases in the atmosphere. Candidate must have authored
one or more peer-reviewed publications. They must have excellent command
of English; both written and oral and have experience presenting their
work at large conferences (e.g. AGU, AMS, etc).

Appointment will be for 1 year, with continuation pending funding and
research progress.
Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and
will continue until the position is filled.
