Atmospheric Scientist
Sonoma Technology is seeking an Atmospheric Scientist to join our Atmospheric and Emissions Modeling Group in Petaluma, California. The successful candidate will assist with emissions and air quality modeling assessments and environmental data analysis projects, and support continued growth in our modeling, emissions, and transportation business areas.

Key Responsibilities
* Conduct technical analyses using advanced emissions and air quality models to address complex environmental problems and meet the research, regulatory, and litigation support needs of our clients.
* Perform emissions modeling for on-road and off-road mobile sources to support regional and project-level transportation-related air quality assessments
* Visualize, analyze, and interpret model data and other environmental datasets.
* Apply statistical methods to compare model results with observation data.
* Develop, process, and assess emissions inventories to support regional and project-level air quality assessments.
* Prepare technical reports and communicate results to clients.
* Work with interdisciplinary teams in a collaborative applied research environment.
Required Qualifications and Skills
* A BS or MS degree in the physical sciences, environmental sciences, or engineering.
* Experience in air quality (e.g., CMAQ, CAMx, AERMOD) or emissions (e.g., MOVES, SMOKE) modeling.
* Strong data analysis and computer skills, including Linux and Microsoft Office programs.
* Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability and willingness to learn through on-the-job internal and external training.
* A strong interest in air quality and environmental science.
Desired Qualifications
* Knowledge of atmospheric processes.
* Experience in mobile source activity analysis (e.g., travel activity modeling) and emissions modeling (e.g., MOVES, EMFAC, NONROAD, OFFROAD)
* Proficiency in a data science and analysis platform (e.g., Python, R, Matlab, IDL).
* Familiarity with a high-level programming language (e.g., Fortran, C, Java, Python) and Linux shell scripting.
* Experience with the U.S. EPA National Emission Inventory, emissions inventory development, and using SMOKE and related tools to develop emissions inputs for air quality models.
* Experience or interest in transportation-related emissions and air quality analysis.
